Reference Translation:
After an agreement with GCD Sant Joan, on June 17 2017, the machinery of a 2.0 project was set in motion, baptized with the name of CF Intercity.
The board of directors, presided over by Salvador Martí together with Javier Mira, began the history of what would become, from its very birth, one of the reference clubs within the province of Alicante.
Intercity entered the history of Spanish football by becoming, on October 29, 2021, the first Spanish football club to be listed on the Stock Exchange, specifically on BME Growth.
The entity took another fundamental step by joining with Fundación Lucentum, a historic basketball team of the city of Alicante, and thus creating a sporting group that aspires to compete in the professional leagues of different sports.

Cultural Context
Ownership of Clubs in Spain:
In Spain, most clubs are Sports Corporations (Sociedades Anónimas Deportivas) which was a legal model created in the 1990s which forced clubs to become companies with shareholders. This was in response to numerous financial scandals to avoid such issues going forward.
Despite this, a few historic clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona were allowed to stay as the member-owned ‘socio’ clubs as we previously discussed.

Cross-Sport Integration:
In England or the US, sports teams across different sports such as football and basketball are quite distinct. For example, Chelsea FC is only a football club and the LA Lakers are only a basketball team. This is often not the case in Spain with football clubs also having other sports teams as seen through the example of CF Intercity above. This is also the case with larger clubs like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona who both have had successful basketful teams, with broader sporting identities beyond football (FC Barcelona even have handball and hockey teams!)
